Roberto Pálmer, artistic director of Diffusion Ensemble since 2005 and regular guest conductor for young people ́s concerts with the “Gran Canaria Philharmonic” since 2012.
Pálmer ́s recent highlights with European orchestras includes the “Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra” (invited by Aldo Ceccato after the “Malaga Philharmonic Contest”), the “Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra” (OSRTVE), “Comunidad de Madrid Symphony Orchestra” (ORCAM), “Slovenian Philharmonic”, “Extremadura Symphony” and “Valencia Symphony” as assistant conductor of John Nelson. With Diffusion Ensemble he has conducted a wide repertoire, the CD recording of “Arte al Derecho”, guest appearances for “Veranos de la Villa Festival” (2007, 2008, 2011), “Inspiracion Espańola” a Spanish music event organised in Nederland (Hague ́s Diligentia Theather), Sacred Music Festival 2014 and several concerts supporting new talented composers and soloists.
Roberto was taking part in the Emmerich Kálmán Competition (Budapest) and the prestigious Donatella Flick Conducting Competition (London) where he get in semi-finals, required for the Royal Ballet (Covent Garden) assistant conductor position auditions. Invited by David Zinman to the Aspen Music Festival and appointed as cover conductor of James Conlon. Last season Pálmer went back to the USA (Virginia) assisting Richard Rosenberg for the National Music Festival.
Made his international debut in 2005 conducting the “Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra”, then he conducted the gala-concert with the “Temsig” competition winner’s and was invited to be musical assistant conductor (travelling with the orchestra to the “Bruckner Festival” in Linz (Austria), the “Europas Musik” in Ludwigshafen (Germany) and the “Stephanie Saal” in Graz (Austria) with the “Ljubljana Academy Orchestra”). At the same time was selected as young conductor of the “Young National Orchestra of Spain (JONDE)”.
Conducting studies with Imre Kollár (Hungary) and George Pehlivanian (Slovenia). Also advised by Walter Weller in Belgium, Leonard Slatkin in USA, John Nelson in France and Adrian Leaper in Spain.
As opera assistant conductor, festivals and competitions he has worked on some titles: Handel (Giulio Cesare), Mozart (Don Giovanni, Magic Flute and Cossi fan tutte), Rossini (The Barber of Seville), Donizetti (Elixir of love), Puccini (La Boheme and Tosca), Bizet (Carmen), Wagner (Sigfried), Britten (Curlew River and The Rape of Lucretia)... Being advised by George Manahan (NY Opera), Nicholas Kraemer (Manchester Camerata) and James Conlon (LA Opera). And as ballet conductor, Roberto has developed pedagogic events with the music of Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns and Musorgsky (Slovenia) and recently with the Gran Canaria Phil leading experimental projects with a professional company of dancers with down syndrome (Lisarco Danza).
